Biography

Mr. Garver attended the University of Bristol, Bristol, England; graduated with honors from American University, Washington D.C. (1970); and received a juris doctorate degree from The Boston University School of Law (1973).

Mr. Garver served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Cuyahoga County from 1974 to 1977. Winning his first seven jury trials may have signaled things to come, but during his tenure as an assistant prosecuting attorney, it was not simply about winning; it was about doing justice. More important than the convictions he secured was the extraordinary respect Mr. Garver earned from those he prosecuted. Mr. Garver fought hard, but tried a clean case, and the defendants he prosecuted and convicted frequently expressed their gratitude for his sense of fairness and decency.

Mr. Garver has extensive experience in both criminal and civil litigation. His chief areas of practice include criminal defense, personal injury, family law, and appeals.

For approximately 15 years, until the company was acquired by Wachovia, Mr. Garver represented the investment firm of A. G. Edwards & Sons, Inc. in Northeastern, Ohio. During that period of time, Mr. Garver was the only solo practitioner in the United States to represent A. G. Edwards & Sons, Inc. His work for A. G. Edwards & Sons, Inc. included contract litigation, defense of broker defection cases, premises liability defense, securities arbitration defense, and general civil litigation. Mr. Garver has done similar work for the investment firm of Stifel Nicholas & Co.

Mr. Garver is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Ohio Association for Justice, and the Cuyahoga County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.

Mr. Garver has taught law at an accredited university on both undergraduate and graduate levels.
